FLC oversaw a complete gut and renovation of the MGH Burn Unit consisting of 13,000 SF. The scope of the project included seven (7) ICU rooms, nine (9) patient rooms, an exercise/rehab room, and a nurse station amongst others. Numerous challenges presented themselves throughout construction and each were handled in a manner that worked for the hospital as well as the construction team. Adjacent to the burn unit was active patient floors which had to be taken into consideration on a day-to-day basis and the project was completed with no disturbance to these active areas. Another aspect of construction was the close coordination between FLC, our subcontractors, and the hospital’s shops – MEP shutdowns had to be planned well in advance and used efficiently – something FLC had no issue complying with. The project was a success with all parties of the construction team being extremely happy with the outcome and MGH having a new state-of-the-art Burn Center.
