Although F.L. Caulfield & Sons is familiar with working in sensitive healthcare environments, the completion of the HVAC upgrades for the Wikstrom Operating Rooms at Newton Wellesley Hospital proved to be one of the more challenging projects FLC has completed to date. The project presented the unique challenge of completing work within operating rooms without the rooms being shut down for any period. In order to meet the demands of the project, FLC broke the project down into phases to be done at night. The detailed planning of each phase allowed FLC and our subcontractors to not only complete the work, but to do so while maintaining the requirements associated with the Class IV ICRA Classification; the highest level of cleanliness required for any hospital project.
By bringing all team members into the coordination and scheduling of the work, we were able to anticipate any possible issues that could arise when in the room. This exercise allowed contingency plans to be put in place that assured the hospital that their operating rooms would be ready for normal use the following morning. With the help of the design team, NWH facilities, and subcontractors, FLC was able to complete the project on time and within budget.
