F. L. Caulfield & Sons, Inc. partnered with Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital located in Boston to complete the upgrade of an existing utility 15KV switchgear. The project consisted of an infrastructure expansion of a two-story addition to house a new 15KV switchgear room with adjacent new cooling towers. The new 15 KV switchgear room will be monitored with aspirating smoke detection system (VESDA). This project posed many challenges which included maintaining delivery access to the hospital, site excavation that worked around life safety components, and getting a temporary oxygen feed in place because of temporary shutdowns due to construction. FLC coordinated with vendors such as Eversource and Boston Water & Sewer for shutdowns and new utilities being installed
